Coordinates: 62 ° 2 ′  N , 14 ° 21 ′  E Härjedalen is a municipality ( Swedish commun ) in the Swedish province of Jämtlands län . It consists mainly of the historical province of Härjedalen , but also to a small extent from Hälsingland and Dalarna . The main town of the municipality is Sveg . Other places are Funäsdalen , Hede , Lillhärdal , Norr-Hede , Ulvkälla , Vemdalen , Ytterhogdal and other smaller places. The European route 45 and the Reichsstrasse 84 as well as the inland railway run through Härjedalen.

The municipality, which is one of the largest in Sweden in terms of area, borders on Norway and is mostly located in the Scandinavian Mountains . It extends about 180 kilometers along the Ljusnan River and has a maximum extension of 110 kilometers in a north-easterly direction. The main town Sveg is in the east of the municipality. In the center of the municipality is the Sonfjället National Park , habitat u. a. for the brown bear . A few kilometers north of it is the Vemdalen tourist center and Funäsdalen in the high mountains near the Norwegian border .

economy

The main industry in the municipality is tourism. Vemdalen, Lofsdalen and the high mountains are the most important tourist areas. The forestry , the traditional industry of the municipality is of some importance, while the industry only plays a minor role with about 13% of the workforce.
