Sveg is 128 km south of Östersund as the crow flies, by road or train it is about 180 km. Above and below Sveg there are barrages of the Ljusnan.
history
The name Sveg has been known as a Thingplatz since the 1270s . The origin of the name could be a bend in the Ljusnan river in Sveg ( Icelandic sveigr , bend). Until the end of the 19th century, Sveg was primarily an ecclesiastical center and a center of jurisdiction. The settlement of large timber companies and the connection to the railroad to Orsa , Brunflo and Hede made Sveg the capital of the surrounding areas.
