Ulrich Bez

Ulrich Bez (born November 7, 1943 in Bad Cannstatt ) is a German entrepreneur and engineer. In his professional career so far, he has worked for various automobile manufacturers. From July 2000 to November 2013 he was Managing Director of the British sports car manufacturer Aston Martin .

Life

Ulrich Bez studied aerospace engineering before joining Porsche, where he was responsible for crash structures. During this time he did his doctorate and obtained a doctorate for the dissertation topic "Contribution to the conception of transport rescue equipment".

At BMW , Bez became head of "BMW Technik GmbH Munich" and was largely responsible for the development of the BMW Z1 . He then returned to Porsche in 1988 as Head of Development on the Executive Board. During his three-year employment there, he was responsible for motorsport and the development of the four-door prototype Porsche 989 before he left the company.

In 1993, Bez went to South Korea for the car manufacturer Daewoo , which had previously specialized in the license production of Opel models. Various vehicles such as B. the small car Daewoo Matiz developed.

He then returned to Europe, where he became CEO of Aston Martin in 2000 . The company was modernized under his leadership. In addition to developing the DB9 , V8 Vantage , Rapide and One-77 models , he led the sports car manufacturer back into motorsport. In November 2013, Bez resigned as CEO and became chairman of the supervisory board. Andrew Palmer, coming from Nissan , took up his former post in September 2014 . Bez recorded his time as managing director of Aston Martin autobiographically in the book Making Aston Martin , published in 2013 .

The racing career

Bez has been regularly participating in motorsport races since 2006 such as the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring , where he competed in various Aston Martin vehicles such as the V8 Vantage N24 , V12 Vantage or V12 Zagato .
