Paul Meijer

Paul Meijer (born March 27, 1985 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch automobile racing driver .

Career

Meijer began his motorsport career in karting in 1994 , where he was active until 2000. After becoming in 2001 the Dutch Fifth Toyota Yaris Cup, he moved in 2002 to the single-seater racing and launched in the Benelux Formula Ford , where he finished seventh overall. In 2003 the racing driver won the Dutch Formula Renault championship . He also competed in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and finished fourth overall with a win. In addition, he took part in two races of the World Series Light . In 2004 the Dutchman stayed in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and finished sixth in the drivers' championship. He also competed again in the Dutch Formula Renault and finished the season in fourth place.

In 2005 Meijer only participated in two races in the German Formula 3 Cup and was 15th in the drivers' standings. In 2006 he did not take part in any racing series. In 2007 he returned to motorsport and competed in six races of the northern European Formula Renault. He was on the podium in all races and scored two wins that helped him finish seventh overall. In 2008 he initially returned to six races in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and finished eleventh in the championship with one win. After Nelson Philippe , the regular driver of the Borussia Dortmund team in the Superleague Formula supported by Zakspeed , did not show up for the third race weekend of the 2008 season in Zolder , Meijer took over the racing car at short notice. He seized his chance and immediately achieved pole position and came third in the first race. He was then signed by Azerti Motorsport for the Al Ain Club car for the remainder of the season. On his first race weekend in Estoril , he won the second run. There were no further races because he injured his wrist during training in Vallelunga, which meant that the rest of the season was canceled.

In 2009 he entered the International Formula Masters at a race weekend and finished one race in second place. In the overall standings he was twelfth. He also took part in two races in the Dutch GT4 championship. In 2010 he switched to the GT4 European Cup and led the championship with four wins one race weekend before the end. He also returned to the Superleague Formula for a non-championship race . He started for the Atlético Madrid team, which is managed by Alpha Motorsport , and fifth place was his best result.
