Nelson Philippe (born July 23, 1986 in Valence ) is a French racing driver . His younger brothers Richard and Wilson Philippe are also racing drivers.

Career

From 1998 to 2002 Philippe was active in karting and switched to the American Barber Dodge Pro series in 2003 . He finished ninth overall and finished on the podium once.

From the following year, the young Frenchman was active in the Champ Car World Series . In 2004 he was hired by Rocketsports Racing . As his team was not satisfied with his performance, he was fired after five races. After a short break, Philippe switched to Conquest Racing and was 16th overall at the end of the season. In 2005 he stayed with Conquest Racing and was able to improve to 13th place overall at the end of the season. In 2006 , Philippe switched to HVM Racing . After two podium places he succeeded in winning the penultimate race of the season in Surfers Paradise , whereupon he was fourth in the overall standings. Philippe has been the youngest champion of the Champ Car World Series since that triumph. He was unable to repeat this success in 2007 because he was initially unable to get a cockpit due to financial problems. At the end of the season he took part in two races for Conquest Racing. In 2008 Philippe returned to HVM Racing, but since the Champ Car World Series was combined with the IndyCar Series at the end of February , he only drove in the farewell race of the Champ Car World Series in Long Beach and was 15th. Since Philippe was not accepted into the IndyCar Series again, he had no cockpit.

In the summer of 2008 Philippe drove two races for the Borussia Dortmund team in the newly founded Superleague Formula . In addition, Philippe contested the first race weekend in Shanghai for the ART Grand Prix in the 2008/2009 GP2 Asia Series season . Philippe didn't get any points and was replaced by the Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado .

In 2009 Philippe competed with HVM Racing for the first time at the Indianapolis 500 and finished the race in 25th place due to a wall contact. His next appearance in the IndyCar Series, this time for Conquest Racing, was at the event at Infineon Raceway , but after a difficult one Collision with Will Power during training, he, like his opponent, was unable to take part in the race due to injury. So it remained in the championship with 16 points and 35th overall.
