Uwe Nittel (born May 29, 1969 in Michelbach an der Bilz ) is a German entrepreneur and racing car driver .

Career

Uwe Nittel began his motorsport career in 1988 in the automobile slalom and switched to rallying a year later .

In 1990 and 1991 he started for the ADAC Junior Rallye Team Württemberg with Opel vehicles in the German Rallye Trophy. From 1992 he first drove for a year with an Opel Kadett GSI 16V and then with a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4 until 1994 in the German Rally Championship (DRM). There he achieved his best season ranking in this championship in 1994 with sixth place.

In 1995 he started as a private driver with a Toyota Celica GT-Four in the N4 class (PWRC) of the World Rally Championship (WRC) and finished the season in eighth place. In the following year he was accepted into the Mitsubishi factory team Ralliart Germany and drove together with co-driver Christina Thörner in the WRC until 1998. During this time Nittel achieved his greatest rally successes and in 1996 won the PWRC vice world championship title in Group N with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo III . In 1997 he achieved his best result in the WRC with 17th place overall.

After the 1998 season, Nittel left the Mitsubishi works team and drove for private teams in the WRC in 1999, 2000 and 2008. In his final WRC season, he finished 23rd in the PWRC overall standings.

In the years from 2002 to 2015 he competed in various national and international rally competitions, mainly with a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5 16V or Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. In addition to several overall victories, he also took several top ten placements.

In parallel to rallying, Uwe Nittel also regularly competed in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring from 1992 to 2018 . In 2007 he and his fellow drivers achieved seventh overall place in a Porsche 996 GT3-R from Ruf and his best placement in this competition event.

In 2010 and 2011 he competed in the European Truck Racing Championship . In his first season he finished ninth with a Freightliner and in the following year he achieved seventh place in the overall ranking in a MAN truck .

In 2011 he drove with Oliver Mayer for the Black Falcon racing team in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 in the ADAC GT Masters race at the Sachsenring .

In 2015 he started as a works driver for Mercedes-Benz with a Mercedes-Benz C 300 d 4MATIC in the Pikes Peak race . There he undercut the previous track record for diesel cars with a time of 11.37 minutes by two minutes.

Nittel has been the owner of a rally driving school since 1999. He is married, has two sons and lives in Adelmannsfelden .
