The racing driver Leo Löwenstein had a fatal accident during the race . He collided with a BMW and a Lexus in his Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 in the “Mine” section . His vehicle was catapulted into the air and hit the guardrail at the edge of the track. Then it went up in flames, from which Löwenstein could not free himself. The organizer named smoke gas poisoning as the cause of death. The race was then stopped after 22 laps.
