Christian Menzel (born June 22, 1971 in Langenfeld ) is a German racing car driver .

Career

His career began in 1981 in karting . From 1991 he drove ADAC BMW Formula Junior , later Formula Renault and from 1994 Formula 3 .

In 1996 he moved to BMW in the Super Touring Car Cup , where he worked for the Isert team for two years. In 1998 he won with Hans-Joachim Stuck , Andreas Bovensiepen and Marc Duez on a BMW 320d , the Nürburgring 24 Hours , after participating in previous years, several times on other vehicles.

In 1999 Menzel supported the American BMW team Prototype Technology Group in the American Le Mans Series and finished one of the three championship races as class winner in the GT category . In 2000, Menzel separated from BMW and, among other things, drove a Porsche 996 GT3 R for Dick Barbour Racing in the Asia Pacific Le Mans Series alongside the DTM for Opel . He then received a contract for the following year with the Porsche team Alex Job Racing in the American Le Mans Series, but had previously competed for White Lightning Racing in the Daytona 24-hour race . He finished his first race in the Grand-Am with Mike Fitzgerald , Lucas Luhr and Randy Pobst in second place overall and as class winner in the GT. In the following eight races of the ALMS, Menzel and Randy Pobst were on the podium in their class in three races. He also finished a race in the European Le Mans Series on the podium in the GT class.

Afterwards, Menzel concentrated on the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany - where he was overall winner in 2005 - and the Porsche Supercup , in which he participated for a total of seven years. In 2008 he switched to the StarChase Team from China in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. There he took second place in the overall ranking, in 2009 and 2010 he won the cup. Christian Menzel also competes in various Porsche 911 GT3 Cups in the BFGoodrich endurance championship at the Nürburgring .

He also works as an instructor at the driving safety center at the Nürburgring, his place of residence in Kelberg is in the immediate vicinity of the traditional race track.
