Christian Menzel (politician)

Christian Menzel (born April 7, 1943 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and gynecologist . From 1984 to 1989 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament .

education and profession

Menzel attended elementary school in Salzburg between 1950 and 1954 and, from 1954, the Humanistic Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster in Kremsmünster Abbey . He passed the Matura in 1962 at the Stiftsgymnasium and then studied journalism and medicine at the University of Innsbruck from 1962 to 1969 . After his military service as a 1969 one-year volunteer had graduated in Salzburg, he continued his medical studies from 1970 to 1974 at the University of Vienna continued and completed his doctorate in 1974 , Dr. med. univ. In 1975 he became a regular doctor at the Salzburg Regional Hospital , and between 1977 and 1981 he completed training as a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics. In 1983 he was appointed senior physician at the state women's clinic and in 1987 he was appointed primary physician at the state clinic for special gynecology and breast clinic. In addition, he was Medical Director of the Salzburg Regional Hospital from 1987 to 1998 and Medical Director of the Holding of the Salzburg Regional Clinic from 1998 to 2003. In 2005 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Salzburg and in 2006 he was appointed professor at the Paracelsus Medical Private University Salzburg (PMU). In 2007 he was appointed head of the Inter-University Institute for Applied Ethics at the University of Salzburg and the PMU.

Politics and functions

Menzel was regional chairman from 1990 to 2005 and from 2005 president of the Salzburg Association of Academics. From 2004 to 2006 he was President of the Austrian Society for Senology and represented the ÖVP in the Salzburg State Parliament between May 16, 1984 and May 2, 1989.
