Marc Wolfgang Hennerici (born May 10, 1982 in Mayen ) is a German racing driver of German- Brazilian descent who competes in various sports and touring car races. In 2005 he won the Independence Trophy in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). In 2010 he finished the FIA ​​GT1 World Championship in 5th place overall.

Career

Due to the geographical proximity to the Nürburgring and the family roots with motorsport, Hennerici found motorsport early on. He started at kart slalom events as early as 1989 at the age of six . Hennerici drove karting up to and including 1998 and could u. a. twice become champion in the West German ADAC Kart Cup. In 1994 he won the club championship of the kart club in Kerpen .

From 1999 to 2001 Hennerici took part in Formula Junior and then in Formula BMW . In 2002 he switched to touring car racing, in which Hennerici won the Independence Trophy in the WTCC in 2005. In 2006, Hennerici started in the VLN and won the VLN Junior classification and finished the 24h race on two racing cars with one class victory and in overall positions 5 and 7. In 2007 Hennerici achieved five overall victories in the VLN together with Marc Basseng. At the Int. ADAC 24h race 2007 Hennerici achieved third place in the overall ranking. In 2009 he won the GT3 class of the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race and, together with team-mate Luca Ludwig, the runner-up in the ADAC GT Masters .

In 2010 and 2011 Hennerici started in the FIA GT1 World Championship , which he finished in fifth overall in 2010 with a race win and a pole position. From the 2012 season Hennerici started in the Blancpain Endurance Series and was able to achieve third place overall in the professional classification in 2012. A special feature occurred in 2012 at the race on the Nürburgring, which Hennerici was able to win. At the same time, as organization manager, he was also responsible for the implementation of this event and switched between the racing car and the organization office. From the 2014 season onwards, Hennerici reduced his involvement as an active racing driver to motorsport on the Nordschleife. There he and Christian Menzel achieved further class wins in the Porsche Carrera in the VLN Cup in 2015 . In 2016 Hennerici and Moritz Oberheim won 8 out of 10 races in the newly created Porsche Cayman Trophy within the VLN and became the first champion of this one-make cup.

Personal

Hennerici comes from a racing family. His great-uncle Günther Hennerici was the founder and team boss of the Eifelland Caravans team , which took part in several Formula 1 races in the early 1970s . His grandfather Heinz Hennerici, who lost an arm in World War II , was also a racing driver.

Hennerici temporarily lived in Bonn , where he studied economics and successfully graduated in 2011. Marc Hennerici is now married to his long-term partner Maike and has one son. He lives again in his hometown Mayen. Between 2011 and 2018, Hennerici was responsible for the "Sport and Event" department of the ADAC Mittelrheins in Koblenz.
