Klaus Abbelen (born September 15, 1960 in Tönisvorst ) is a German racing driver and former managing director of the meat manufacturer Abbelen .

Career

Motorsport

From 1979 to 1986 Abbelen drove motorcycle races and was third in the superbike class of the German road championship .

Automobile sport

In 1998 Abbelen started racing again, this time in Gran Turismo . He got into the Ferrari-Porsche Challenge and achieved fourth place in the championship on his first participation. After a second and a third place in the following years Abbelen became champion in the Porsche 993 GT2 in 2000 . A year later he was third again.

In 2003 Abbelen competed for Zwaan's Racing in a Dodge Viper GTS-R for one season in the FIA GT Championship . With his teammates Rob van der Zwaan , Marc Goossens and Arjan van der Zwaan , he was able to achieve 14 championship points and took 30th championship place at the end of the season. In 2004 he competed in some races of the FIA ​​GT Championship with Rob van der Zwaan, Val Hillebrand and Henrik Roos , but did not score any championship points. Abbelen also took part in a run of the Le Mans series in the Saleen S7 -R from Konrad Motorsport .

In 2005 Abbelen took part in eight races in the Porsche Supercup and finished 13th in the championship at the end of the season. He then founded his own motorsport team with " Frikadelli Racing " and fielded the Porsche 997 GT3 from the Porsche Supercup in the BFGoodrich endurance championship . Together with his partner Sabine Schmitz , he has already made it onto the podium ten times in the BFGoodrich endurance championship. One of the greatest successes of his career was third place with Sabine Schmitz, Edgar Althoff and Kenneth Heyer in the 2008 24-hour race at the Nürburgring Win the VLN endurance championship at the Nürburgring.
