The Asian Le Mans Series has been a racing series for Le Mans prototypes and Gran Turimos that has been held since 2009 . It is organized by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) and represents the Asian counterpart to the European Le Mans Series and the American Le Mans Series . It succeeds the 2006 and 2007 organized by the SERO (Sports Car Endurance Race Operation) Japan Le Mans Challenge .
history
The first Asian Le Mans Series event was scheduled to take place at the Shanghai International Circuit in November 2008 . But this was canceled.
Two racing events were planned for 2009. The second championship run in Shanghai was canceled again. Only the event in Okayama on October 31st and November 1st as part of the World Touring Car Championship counted towards the championship. Two 500 km races were held here. The races were won by Sora Racing ( Pescarolo - Judd ) and Aston Martin Racing ( Lola-Aston Martin LMP1 ). Due to the low number of starters from the Asian region, the ACO stayed with only one championship run in 2010, which was also advertised for the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup . The 1,000 km race in Zhuhai was won by the Peugeot works team .
For 2015, the ACO has announced 5 vehicle classes: LMP2, LMP3, CN, GT & GT-Am, since then 4 races have been held per season. The championship-winning LMP2 team wins a starting position in the Le Mans 24-hour race .
