The constituency of Breisgau (constituency 48) is a state electoral district in Baden-Württemberg . In the 2006 state elections, it comprised the municipalities of Au , Auggen , Bad Krozingen , Badenweiler , Ballrechte-Dottingen , Bötzingen , Bollschweil , Breisach am Rhein , Buggingen , Ehaben , Ehrenkirchen , Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl , Eschbach , Gottenheim , Hartheim , Heitersheim , Horben , Ihringen , March , Merdingen , Merzhausen , Müllheim , Münstertal / Black Forest , Neuenburg am Rhein , Pfaffenweiler , Schallstadt , Sölden , Staufen im Breisgau , Sulzburg , Umkirch , Vogtsburg im Kaiserstuhl and Wittnau in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district .

The boundaries of the state electoral districts were fundamentally redesigned after the district reform of 1973 for the state elections in 1976 and have only been changed selectively since then. Above-average population growth in the Basel region made it necessary to downsize the neighboring constituency of Lörrach for the 2011 state elections . From this constituency, the communities Kandern , Malsburg-Marzell and Schliengen were assigned to the constituency Breisgau, which, however, has an above-average population and rapid growth. That is why the communities of Gottenheim , March , Schallstadt and Umkirch were incorporated into the Freiburg II constituency .

In the state elections in Baden-Württemberg, each voter has only one vote, which is used to determine both the direct candidate and the total number of seats of a party in the state parliament . There are no state or district lists; instead, in order to establish the equalization of proportions, inferior constituency applicants are assigned second mandates .
