history

Catholic Church of St. Blasius in Schallstadt-Wolfenweiler

Until the 19th century

Whether "Openwilare", where, according to a document from 850 at the time of the Merovingian King Chilperich II , between 716 and 720, an Alemannic nobleman donated land to the St. Gallen monastery , meaning Wolfenweiler or Pfaffenweiler to the south or a third place, ultimately remains unknown. The name is clearly attested in St. Gallen documents from 873 as "Wolvinwilare". The name "Schallstadt" appears for the first time in the 12th century copy of a document from 779 as "Scalcstater marca".

In the 11th century, a noble family that was related to the Counts of Nimburg named itself after Wolfenweiler . After their extinction at the beginning of the 13th century, Wolfenweiler was disputed between the Zähringers and the diocese of Strasbourg , but eventually came to the Count of Freiburg . Schallstadt also belonged to the Zähringers for a time. In the 12th century, Agnes, the widow of Berthold II von Zähringen , donated her property in "villa Scalstat" to the monastery of St. Peter in the Black Forest . The Counts of Freiburg then also gained sovereignty in Schallstadt.

In 1457, the Counts of Freiburg appointed their related Margrave Rudolf IV of Hachberg-Sausenberg as heir. In 1503 the Freiburg counts took over the rule of Badenweiler, which then fell to the margraves of Baden via the margraves of Hachberg-Sausenberg along with the communities of today's Schallstadt . With the Baden inheritance of 1535, the places fell to the Margraviate Margraviate Baden-Durlach . This led the Reformation in its entire area in 1556 , so that the entire Schallstadt communities, unlike the otherwise largely Upper Austrian surrounding area, became Protestant. In 1806 Baden-Durlach rose to become the Grand Duchy of Baden .

Incorporations

Schallstadt and Wolfenweiler merged on January 1, 1971 to form the new community of Schallstadt-Wolfenweiler. Exactly four years later this congregation was united with Quantities and Brings . Ezüge brought an action against the incorporation before the Baden-Württemberg administrative court to regain independence, since the municipality of Pfaffenweiler did not belong to the new overall municipality as provided for in the contract, and received the right on February 6, 1976, so that the incorporation of Ebringen was withdrawn. The community name Schallstadt-Wolfenweiler was simplified to Schallstadt on November 1, 1977.
