About this picture
Heuweiler with Wissereck at the entrance to the Glottertal

Heuweiler is a municipality in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in the south of Baden-Württemberg near Freiburg im Breisgau .

The place has largely retained its original, rural character. While many communities in the vicinity of Freiburg have grown strongly in the last few decades, slow, organic change took place in Heuweiler.

geography

Heuweiler lies at the confluence of the Glottertal into the Rhine plain . The community includes the village of Vorderheuweiler, the hamlet of Hinterheuweiler, the Zinken Neuhäuser and the Berghäusle and Litz Nahrungsmittelerhof farms.

In the west Gundelfingen borders on Heuweiler, in the east the community Glottertal , both in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald ; the northern neighboring municipality of Denzlingen is in the district of Emmendingen .

The Flissert is the local mountain of Heuweiler, but a not inconsiderable part of it is located in the Denzlinger district.

history

Early history

Around 1300, when the Counts of Freiburg were lords, Heuweiler was owned by the Küchlin gentlemen , whose Küchlinshof was still an accessory to the Küchlinsburg in Waldkirch in the 16th century .

Since the beginning, the history of the village has been closely linked to that of the city of Freiburg. For example, the farmers of Heuweiler had to provide tensioning services for the transport of the Tennenbach sandstone for the construction of the Freiburg Minster . When Freiburg became part of the Habsburg family in 1368 , rule passed to the Dukes of Austria . In the 15th century, the Schwarzenbergs also held local rights. When their rule was sold in 1567 and became the cameramen of Kastelberg-Schwarzenberg in front of Austria , Heuweiler became a bailiwick . To this day, old boundary stones on the boundaries of the district are a reminder of this time.

In 1805 Heuweiler (like the city of Freiburg) became part of the Grand Duchy of Baden . The place then belonged first to the district office Waldkirch, then from 1936 to the district office Freiburg .

Religions

The parish church is first mentioned in a document in 1275. It is dedicated to Saint Remigius . Until recently, Heuweiler has remained a predominantly Catholic village. Only since the arrival in the last few decades have residents with other denominations to be found in the village.

politics

Administrative community

Heuweiler is one of the smallest independent communities in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district. The independence could be preserved by an administrative community with the neighboring community Gundelfingen.

mayor

Heuweiler has an honorary mayor. Reinhard Bentler, whose term of office ended on July 31, 2015, had headed both communities as mayor for over 32 years. His successor, Raphael Walz, who was elected on May 3, 2015, continues this tradition and has been the mayor of both municipalities of the administrative community since August 1, 2015.

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a pitchfork crossed with a rake. Nevertheless, the place name has nothing to do with hay, but is the written German form of the old name Hainwiller, ie "Weiler im Hain " or "Hau" (beaten forest).

Economy and Infrastructure

economy

Heuweiler was originally predominantly agricultural. Today there are only a few full-time businesses and a small number of independent craft businesses. Tourism and gastronomy, on the other hand, developed well. However, the majority of residents commute to work in Freiburg or one of the surrounding communities.

traffic

Not far from Heuweiler are the well-developed federal highways 3 and 294 in the direction of Emmendingen or Freudenstadt or in the direction of Freiburg with a connection to the A5 . Via the state road 112 from Denzlingen through Glottertal to St. Peter, Heuweiler is connected to public transport in the north with line 7205 from Südbadenbus GmbH . In addition to a ride-sharing campaign, a network for spontaneous and planned carpooling, which has existed since 2016, there is also a rideshare bench at the southern exit towards Gundelfingen and Freiburg.

schools

A branch of the Johann-Peter-Hebel- Grundschule Gundelfingen is located in Heuweiler. Secondary schools are located in Denzlingen, Gundelfingen and Freiburg.

Culture and sights

The baroque church of St. Remigius, visible from afar, with its two valuable altar paintings is worth seeing .
