The gentlemen Küchlin , also Kucheli , Kuechlin or Kuechle , were a southern German noble family in the Freiburg im Breisgau area .

Origin and family relationships

The Küchlin gentlemen were one of the oldest and most important noble families in the city of Freiburg im Breisgau. The first documentary mention goes to a knight “dct. Kucheli, plebanus in Wipprechtskilche ” ( Wippertskirch ) back in 1234. It is possible that Messrs. Küchlin originally came from the Basel area . Two documents speak for this; the first from the year 1263, which calls a " Heinricus, dictus Kücheli, Basiliensis noblis vir ", and another from October 16, 1266, which calls a " Heinricum dictum Koechilin Basiliensem ".

Especially in the 13th century there are many documents in which Messrs. Küchlin and Messrs. Giving , an old Freiburg noble family, are present as witnesses. Likewise, Messrs. Aetscher, Trösch and von Urberg , who were also related to Messrs. Giving. In the 14th century there are also marriage connections between the gentlemen Küchlin and Giving: the son of Johannes Giving (* around 1250, † 1324), who was nicknamed "Lüllech", and Guota von Urberg (* around 1255, † April 12th 1336). Johannes was married to the daughter of Egelof Küchlin.

As of the obituary of the monastery Günterstal died on February 21, " Cunrat Tottikoven dictus Küchlin " is classified, it is not clear.

history

The brothers Rudolf and Conrad were in the 13th century Commanders of the coming of the Teutonic Order in Freiburg , Sundheim and Guebwiller . On January 20, 1300 Egelolfus Küchlin acquired the Weiherschloss in Waldkirch from the Lords of Schwarzenberg . The moated castle, later called " Küchlinsburg ", was located at the mouth of the Dettenbach in the southeast of the city near the St. Margarethenstift . In the costly Battle of Sempach on July 9, 1386, the knights Egnolff and Haintzman Küchlin fell from the family. Many members of the sex were citizens, councilors and mayors of the city of Freiburg. They also had rights such. B. in Hartheim , Eschbach , Opfingen , Hausen , Merzhausen , Au , Horben and Heuweiler , where the Küchlinshof still existed in the 16th century . The brothers Hans, Egenolf and Rudolf Kuechlin were enfeoffed with the town of Endingen am Kaiserstuhl -Kiechlinsbergen in 1425 . With the help of their Kiechlinsbergen Castle, they exercised jurisdiction in the name of the Andlau Abbey as sub- governors of the Üsenbergers , then as governors of the place. In 1454 they were also feudal men of the Günterstal monastery. The necrology of the Günterstal monastery shows many women from Küchlin. An Adelheid Küchlin was the prioress there . She died on February 21, 1433. In the Bad Krozingen town archive there is a seal of a mayor Egnolf Kuechli from 1460. The last of the knightly family was Burkhard, who was governor of the mayor's office in Freiburg in 1565. 1709 found bearers of the name Küchlin or Ki (e) chlin in Pforzheim , Mengen , Tiengen , Opfingen and Wolfenweiler ; whose (possibly illegitimate) descent from the Küchlin family is not improbable. The name Küchlin (e.g. Karl Küchlin ) still occurs with modifications in Breisgau.
