The Glotter (also: Glotterbach ) is an approximately 40 km long tributary of the Dreisam in the Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg ( Germany ).

course

The Glotter rises in the central Black Forest on the eastern slope of the 1241  m high Kandel . Initially it flows to the southwest in the direction of Sankt Peter and then turns - without flowing through the village - northwest through the Breisgau . The water reaches Denzlingen through the Glottertal , in which the so-called Black Forest Clinic is located . After crossing Reute , the Glotter flows north from Teningen- Nimburg at the northern end of the Freiburg Bay or in the Upper Rhine Plain . Its confluence with the Dreisam coming from the south is just under 900 m west of the federal motorway 5 , a few meters west of the district road K 5114 , which connects Teningen in the south-east with Riegel in the north-west, or around 135 m south of the confluence of the Dreisam with the Elz .

Lossele

In order to protect the downstream of the Glottertal from floods, most of the water from the Glotter is diverted to the Lossele at the exit of the Glottertal, near the Denzlinger sports grounds . The Lossele is a nearly two-and-a-half kilometer long stream that flows east of Denzlingen and flows into the Elz opposite Buchholz . Controlled by traps, the Lossele drains most of the Glotter water into the Elz at higher water levels. For this reason, the Schobbach at its confluence with the Glotter near Nimburg-Bottingen is much richer in water than the Glotter, although it has a much larger catchment area.

Worth seeing

Part of the Baden Wine Route runs along the Glotter between the villages of Glottertal and Denzlingen . The Glottertal has gained nationwide popularity as the setting for the Black Forest Clinic television series .
