Uwe Wassmer (born January 22, 1966 in Wehr ) is a former German soccer player and coach.

Career

player

Wassmer began his career in his hometown at FC Wehr , parallel to his training as a machine fitter. When the striker moved from the A-youths to the first men's team, which played in the district league, he was the top scorer in the district league in his first season (29 goals in 26 games). In the following season he rose with the team in the national league. Wassmer's achievements aroused the interest of Ottmar Hitzfeld , who at the time was coaching the Swiss A national league club (today Super League ) FC Aarau , 40 kilometers away . Finally, Wassmer was signed by Aarau in 1985.

Three years later, for the 1988/89 season, Wassmer moved to the then second division club FC Schalke 04 . In his first game for Schalke on the first day of the season against Fortuna Düsseldorf , which ended 1-1, he equalized. Wassmer was also successful on matchday 3, in the 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt he was a double goal scorer. In total, he scored 10 goals in 35 games this season. Wassmer experienced four changes of president and three coaches in 12 months; most recently he was trained by Peter Neururer . Because of this turbulence, Wassmer decided to move back to Switzerland after one season. After a season with FC Basel , he signed again with FC Aarau in the summer of 1990. Here he and his team under coach Rolf Fringer and teammate Roberto Di Matteo won the Swiss championship title in 1993.

Also because of this success, the then second division Hannover 96 became aware of Wassmer and invited him to a trial training session. During this training, Wassmer was also observed by a friend of Volker Finke , who at that time had led the club to the 1st Bundesliga for the first time as the coach of SC Freiburg . After Wassmer was on his way back from Hanover to Switzerland and was considering a move to Hanover, he was contacted by Achim Stocker , then president of SC Freiburg, and signed with a handshake on the same day in September 1993.

In his first season in 1993/94 Wassmer played 15 games and scored seven goals. With players like Rodolfo Cardoso and Jens Todt , Wassmer achieved third place in the Bundesliga with the 1995 sports club and thus qualified for the 1995/96 UEFA Cup .

Wassmer scored the fastest Joker goal in Bundesliga history. On September 22, 1996, he scored for SC Freiburg 13 seconds after his substitution with the intermediate score of 2: 5 in the game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In the end, however, it did not help his club, the SCF lost 3: 5.

After a temporary relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga (1997/98) another season followed with Freiburg in the 1st division. In 1999 Wassmer moved to the second division club SV Waldhof Mannheim , where he came on 11 missions. After this season he ended his career.

Wassmer played a total of 93 Bundesliga games (23 goals) and 25 second division games (7 goals) for SC Freiburg and 11 second division games for SV Waldhof Mannheim (1 goal).

Trainer

After working as a player- coach at FC Schallstadt- Wolfenweiler (South Baden), he became the coach of SV Ballrechte-Dottingen (team I) on July 1, 2003 . 2003/04 rose his team for one season in the national league . From 2009 to 2011 he coached the youth team at FC Aarau for two and a half years. Between the beginning of 2015 and June 2015, Wassmer was the coach of the southern Baden regional league club FC Teningen .
