The constituency of Esslingen (constituency 07) is a state electoral district in Baden-Württemberg . In the last state election in 2016, it comprised the communities of Aichwald , Denkendorf , Esslingen am Neckar , Neuhausen auf den Fildern , Ostfildern and Wolfschlugen from the Esslingen district .

The boundaries of the state electoral districts were fundamentally redesigned after the district reform of 1973 for the state elections in 1976 and have only been changed selectively since then. For the first time since the state elections in 2011 there has been a change in the layout of the Esslingen constituency. Strong population growth in the neighboring constituency of Nürtingen made it necessary to downsize this constituency. That is why the Wolfschlugen community was incorporated into the Esslingen constituency in 2011 .

Member of Parliament since 1976

In the state elections in Baden-Württemberg, each voter has only one vote, which is used to determine both the direct candidate and the total number of seats of a party in the state parliament . There are no state or district lists; instead, in order to establish the equalization of proportions, inferior constituency applicants are assigned second mandates .

The constituency of Esslingen has been represented by the following members in the state parliament since 1976:

Political party Type of mandate Elected
CDU First mandate Theo Balle 1976, 1980, 1984
Martin Herzog 1988, resigned from office on September 30, 1989
Christa Vossschulte moved up on October 2, 1989; 1992, 1996, 2001, 2006
Andreas Deuschle 2011
CDU Second mandate Andreas Deuschle 2016
SPD Second mandate Elisabeth Nill 1976, 1980, 1984
Wolfgang Drexler 1988, 1992, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016, mandate resigned on December 31, 2018
Nicolas Fink moved up on January 1, 2019
FDP Second mandate Ernst Waldemar Bauer 1984
GREEN First mandate Andrea Lindlohr 2016
GREEN Second mandate Andrea Lindlohr 2011

For the 1984 state elections, the Greens did not nominate any candidates in the three constituencies of the Esslingen district because they missed the deadline. As a result, in connection with the second mandate rule, the entry into the state parliament of the FDP candidate Bauer was indirectly favored.
