The constituency of Schorndorf (constituency 16) is a state electoral district in the Rems-Murr district in Baden-Württemberg . In the last state election in 2016, it comprised the communities of Kernen im Remstal , Plüderhausen , Remshalden , Rudersberg , Schorndorf , Urbach , Weinstadt and Winterbach . 96,116 of the approx. 138,000 inhabitants were entitled to vote.

The boundaries of the state electoral districts were fundamentally redesigned after the district reform of 1973 for the state elections in 1976 and have only been changed selectively since then. For the first time there was a change in the layout of the Schorndorf constituency for the 2011 state election. The municipality of Berglen was incorporated into the neighboring constituency of Backnang , as its population is considerably below the average. Because at the same time the aim was to cut through the district boundaries in as few places as possible, the constituency of Schorndorf was reduced in size for this purpose, although this was already one of the smaller constituencies.

Member of Parliament since 1976

In the state elections in Baden-Württemberg, each voter has only one vote, which is used to determine both the direct candidate and the total number of seats of a party in the state parliament . There are no state or district lists; instead, in order to establish the equalization of proportions, inferior constituency applicants are assigned second mandates .

The constituency of Schorndorf has been represented by the following members of parliament since 1976:

Political party Type of mandate Elected
CDU First mandate Günther Steeb 1976
Guntram Martin Palm 1980, 1984, 1988, resigned from office in early 1992
Karl Walter Ziegler , moved up in early 1992
Hans Heinz 1992, 1996, 2001, 2006
Claus Paal 2011
CDU Second mandate Claus Paal 2016
FDP Second mandate Jürgen Hofer 1996, 2001
Jochen Haußmann 2011, 2016
Green Second mandate Petra Häffner 2011
Green First mandate Petra Häffner 2016
REP Second mandate Rudolf Bühler 1992

After Guntram Martin Palm resigned in 1992 shortly before the end of the legislative period, the state parliament no longer met for a plenary session, so that Karl Walter Ziegler , who followed, was also referred to as a "phantom member".
