Öschelbronn, Rettersburg, Oppelsbohm, Bretzenacker and Steinach were first mentioned in 1293 in a document from Lorch Monastery . These places came to Württemberg in 1325 with the rule of Winnenden . The other localities, belonging to the Adelberg Monastery Office , also fell to Württemberg during the Reformation around 1534.

With the new administrative structure in the Kingdom of Württemberg , which was founded in 1806 , Bretzenacker, Ödernhardt, Öschelbronn, Oppelsbohm, Rettersburg and Steinach (with Reichenbach ) were assigned to the Oberamt Waiblingen . The places Hößlinswart and Vorderweißbuch were subordinate to the Oberamt Schorndorf .

During the district reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg , all nine municipalities came to the Waiblingen district in 1938 .

In 1945 the communities became part of the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.

Oppelsbohm, the current administrative seat of the municipality of Berglen, grew in the post-war years through new development areas that arose at the northern and eastern exit of the town. In the 1970s and 1980s, a new residential area was added in the southwest of Oppelsbohm. Smaller new building areas also emerged in other districts.

As a result of the district reform in Baden-Württemberg , the area of the new Berglen municipality became part of the Rems-Murr district on January 1, 1973.
