history

Kirchberg was first mentioned in a document on April 11, 1245 as Kircberc . The village, which was largely owned by the Dukes of Teck , came to Württemberg on July 12, 1302 . Kirchberg was repeatedly plundered during the Thirty Years' War , which destroyed half of the buildings and a third of the population died from the plague that was brought in in 1626. In 1693, French soldiers marched through the town, looting and murdering numerous residents. At the beginning of the 19th century came the great upheavals as a result of the coalition wars , in connection with which the Kingdom of Württemberg was founded in 1806 . After these drastic events for the population with constant war-related burdens, 1816 came to be the year without a summer . In the course of the 19th century, 184 Kirchbergers emigrated because of such famines; including to Bessarabia , where they founded the Lichtental settlement , with some descendants returning after the Second World War . The road conditions to Affalterbach, Marbach and 1956 to Backnang were not improved until 1930. The community belonged to the office, later the Oberamt Marbach and in 1938 came to the district of Backnang . After the Second World War, Kirchberg developed from an agricultural community into a commuter town.
