history

Older story

Basket 1686 in Kieser's forest inventory book

The first documented mention known so far comes from the year 1270. In an Esslinger document from the year 1270 it is attested that the hospital in Esslingen acquired land in Korb from the convent of the women's monastery in Steinheim (Murr). Numerous finds that are exhibited in the Stone Age Museum in Korb-Kleinheppach show that Korb and its surroundings were already settled tens of thousands of years earlier. Stone Age tools of the Middle Paleolithic (approx. 50,000 years ago), the Younger Paleolithic (approx. 20,000 years ago), the Middle Stone Age , the older, middle and late Neolithic, including ribbon ceramics, Rössen culture and cord ceramics culture (4500–2000 BC) , as well as finds from the Bronze Age (approx. 1700 BC) testify to ancient settlements in the area around Korb and Kleinheppach.

middle Ages

There are no direct finds from Korb for the following Celtic and Roman times , but these are from the immediate vicinity ( Schurwald and Waiblingen). Korb only reappears in the document in question in 1270. In 1389 it is reported that the Esslingen citizen Konrad Raiser owned half the village that Eberhard der Greiner from the Wirtenberg family contested. 1494 it can be proven that the whole place and Steinreinach belonged to " Wirtenberg ".

Old Württemberg time

The peasant uprising in 1514 (“ Poor Konrad ”) in the Rems Valley and in 1525 throughout the country did not leave Korb's residents unaffected.

During the Thirty Years' War 1618–1648 there was great hardship and Korb was partly completely uninhabited (1636–38) due to the consequences of the defeat in the Battle of Nördlingen for Württemberg. Many houses were destroyed and several then demolished in order to build new houses in Waiblingen with the demolition material. A few families from Korb were able to save themselves by fleeing temporarily, including the Singer family, which became the largest family in the village after their return. Esaias Singer, born in 1573, is the progenitor of all today's singers.

The French invasion of the Rems Valley (1797) during the War of the Palatinate Succession brought further suffering for Korb.

19th and 20th centuries

Korb belonged to the Waiblingen Office, which was declared the Waiblingen Oberamt from 1758 . At the Oberamt membership of the change after the establishment of the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1806 nothing.

Over the centuries, wine played a major role in the predominantly rural population. It was practically the main source of income, but it was also subject to many taxes.

It was not until industrialization around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, combined with a catastrophic phylloxera infestation , in which all the vineyards in the Rems Valley had to be cleared and the vines burned, justified the change from Korb to today's residential community with its good infrastructure.

The administrative reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg led to membership in the Waiblingen district in 1938 . In 1945 Korb fell into the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.

Incorporation of Kleinheppach
