Economic conditions
The economic situation in Reichenbach was catastrophic well into the 19th century. The name Geißwand comes from the fact that the residents of Reichenbach could not afford cows, only goats (goats). In the Oberamtsbeschreibung from 1850: “The farm is described as small ... The residents are among the poorest in the district and do not grow their own need for grain. There are only 8 linen weavers and 3 shoemakers in the community of Reichenbach. ”The reasons for the poor yield were: the very poor cultivation conditions (soil quality, terrain and microclimate) and the very small cultivation areas due to the inheritance . Because of these circumstances, some families emigrated to America. Many parents had to earn their living abroad, and many children went begging. In the Reichenbach coat of arms is a cherry branch with 3 cherries. This is due to the fact that a lot of cherry trees were planted in Reichenbach. The Bergleswasser (a schnapps) was distilled from them. The trees were allowed to grow very high and in order to harvest the cherries they had to climb up to 50-rung ladders, some of which were extended. This then led to fatal accidents. From 1876 even more cherries were grown, as the perishable cherries could now be transported to Stuttgart and Bavaria on the Remstalbahn . The Reichenbacher strawberries were first sold in small chip baskets on the Stuttgart market in 1935 . Today Reichenbach owns 22 hectares of forest.
Electricity and water supply
Until 1875, the Reichenbachers had to fetch their water from a well 100 m below the town center. The aqueduct that was built in 1875 had a bug. The water did not get to the upper floors of the schoolhouse. In 1935 a new water pipe was built. The Reichenbacher Quelle is the spring with the most water in Berglen. In 1924 Reichenbach was the last municipality in the Berglen to be connected to the power grid.
school
The Reichenbach children had to go to Buoch until 1700.
1700 Steinach received a school which the Reichenbach children also attended.
Around 1815 the Steinacher Dorfbütteln brought the children to school so that they would not beg.
In 1866 Reichenbach received a school. Since Reichenbach was poor, it was largely financed by the state.
1938 Reichenbach and Steinach become a school.
1969 Reichenbach, Steinach and Hößlinswart merge.
Parents had to pay a fine for not sending their children to school. Today there is no more teaching in Reichenbach. The school building is now used for events on the ground floor. Today there are apartments on the upper floor.
fire Department
In 1840 the Reichenbach fire brigade bought a handheld fire syringe from other locations.
In 1847 this syringe became the complete property of the municipality of Reichenbach, because the other towns bought their own syringe. This syringe was also at the world exhibition in Paris.
In 2001 the Reichenbach and Steinach volunteer fire departments merged.
In 2008 the merger with other volunteer fire brigades from Berglen took place to form the South Department.
societies
There are three clubs in Reichenbach:
- Mixed choir Reichenbach: In 1918 some young people who were keen to sing began to practice a few songs. In 1922 this “loose” choir became a real association with regular singing lessons. The Waffelfest has been held every three years since 1977.
- Fruit and Horticultural Association Reichenbach: In 1933 the Fruit and Horticultural Association Reichenbach was founded. He organizes the annual flower decoration competition with three other fruit and horticultural associations.
- SSV Steinach-Reichenbach: Sports fans founded the club in 1957. In 1959 the clubhouse was inaugurated. The club has had its own playable soccer field since 1960. In 1980 the Mountain Olympics took place for the first time. The new club house is currently being built in the Erlenhof.
