Under Hofmann, IG Metall has succeeded for the first time in more than twenty years in enforcing improvements in working hours through collective agreements: From 2019, employees in the metal and electrical industry will receive an additional collectively agreed payment of 27.5 percent of a monthly wage. Employees with children, relatives in need of care or in shift work can convert the additional allowance into additional days off. In addition, all employees are entitled to shorten their working hours to up to 28 hours per week for up to 24 months. The Tagesspiegel commented on the collective bargaining agreement: “With its call for the introduction of the 28-hour week, IG Metall is setting the trend. Once again."
