David Cheng

David Cheng (born July 21, 1989 in Beijing , People's Republic of China ) is an American - Chinese racing driver . In 2013 and 2014 he won the LMP2 drivers 'championship and in 2015/16 the LMP3 drivers' championship of the Asian Le Mans Series (AsLMS). In 2016 he competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Career

Cheng began his motorsport career in 2006 in kart racing , in which he remained active until 2007. In 2008 Cheng switched to formula racing and competed in the Skip Barber Western Regional Championship . In 2009 he drove in the Skip Barber Eastern Regional Championship and also took part in some races of the Pacific Formula F2000 for PR1 Motorsports . In 2010 Cheng stayed in the Pacific Formula F2000 and was runner-up with PR1 Motorsports. He also contested two races in the US F2000 National Championship .

In 2011, Cheng again achieved second place in the Pacific Formula F2000 with PR1 Motorsports. He also competed in sports car races. He finished seventh in the Chinese Volkswagen Scirocco R Cup and competed for PR1 Motorsports in one race each in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and the Rolex Sports Car Series . In 2012, Cheng took part in some races of the Pacific Formula F2000 and the Formula Pilota China in formula racing. Cheng also drove in the sports car in China and in the United States this year. He finished fifth in the Chinese Volkswagen Scirocco R Cup with four wins and he won one race in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge .

In 2013, Cheng drove for OAK Racing in the Asian Le Mans Series (AsLMS). With changing teammates he won two races. He won the drivers' championship in the LMP2 class. In the ALMS he drove a few races for PR1 Mathiesen Motorsports and was 23rd in the PC classification with a class win. He also made his debut with OAK Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and took part in two races. He also contested two races in the Pacific Formula F1600 for PR1 Motorsport. In 2014, Cheng and Ho-Pin Tung won all races in the Asian Le Mans Series for OAK Racing and won the LMP2 drivers' championship together with Tung. He also contested four races in the United SportsCar Championship 2014 ( USCC ) for various teams and made three guest starts in the FIA ​​World Endurance Championship for OAK Racing. Cheng made his debut in the Le Mans 24-hour race . He also drove two races in the Chinese Audi R8 LMS Cup.

In 2015, Cheng drove long-distance races in the United SportsCar Championship, the Asian Le Mans Series and the European Le Mans Series and made guest appearances in the FIA ​​World Endurance Championship. In the Asian Le Mans Series he and Tung won the LMP3 classification for DC Racing . He also took part in some races in the Chinese Audi R8 LMS Cup. In 2016 , Cheng received a cockpit for the Signatech team Baxi DC Racing Alpine in the FIA ​​World Endurance Championship. There he forms a driver trio with Nelson Panciatici and Tung.

Cheng is a citizen of both Hong Kong and the United States . He starts in motorsport partly with Chinese and partly with US nationality.
