Martin Plowman

Martin Plowman (born October 3, 1987 in Burton-upon-Trent ) is a British racing driver .

Like most motorsport enthusiasts, Plowman began his career in karting , where he was active from 2003 to 2005. Among other things, he won the French Elite Championship in 2003 and the Asia-Pacific Formula A Championship in 2004. In 2006 Plowman switched to formula racing to the Prema Powerteam and started in two racing series. While he was fifth overall in the Italian Formula Renault , he was 23rd in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . In the next season he stayed in both series and deteriorated in the Italian Formula Renault to seventh, and in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup to 26th place in the overall classification. In 2008 he switched to RC Motorsport in the Formula 3 Euro Series and contested the first seven race weekends of the season. He never got beyond 17th place and finished 31st in the overall standings at the end of the season.

In 2009 Plowman decided to move to North America and competed for Panther Racing in the Indy Lights . He was mostly faster than his teammate Pippa Mann and finished eleventh overall with two fifth places as the best results at the end of the season. In 2010 he was signed by AFS Racing / Andretti Autosport . In Lexington , Plowman won his first Indy Lights race. He finished the season in third place overall. In 2011 , Plowman made his IndyCar Series debut . He took part in three races for Sam Schmidt Motorsports . His car was also prepared by AFS Racing. He finished the season in 33rd place overall. He did not complete any other races.

In 2012 Plowman switched to endurance racing to Conquest Racing in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Together with David Heinemeier Hansson , he won the LMP2 class twice. The two took second place at the end of the season. In 2013 , Plowman received a cockpit at OAK Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). He drove with Bertrand Baguette and Ricardo González . The three of them won the LMP2 classification twice, including at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . The best overall placement was fourth. The three finished the season in tenth place in the world championship and won the trophy for LMP2 drivers.

In 2014, Plowman competed for BAR1 Motorsports in three races of the newly established United SportsCar Championship (USCC) and two IndyCar races for AJ Foyt Enterprises .
