The racetrack was built and opened in 1960 as a circuit that is only 1752 meters long. The piste was expanded twice - in 1973 and 1989 - so that it is now 3,636 meters long. The course is named after the Nogaro-born racing driver Paul Armagnac , who was known as a sports car driver in the 1950s and 1960s.

The French Motorcycle Grand Prix was held five times in Nogaro . The first race took place in 1978 , the last in 1982 . In the Tour de France for automobiles , many special stages have taken place over the years as circuit races at the Circuit Paul Armagnac.

Since the beginning of the 2000s, championship races from various French racing series have primarily been held on the course. The train also serves as a test track. The efforts of the track operators to bring another international series to Nogaro were crowned with success again in 2008 when the FIA GT Championship hosted a championship run.

In 2012 , the FIA GT1 World Championship will hold a championship run in Nogaro for the first time.
