Pyynikki circuit
The Pyynikki circuit is a former racing circuit in the Finnish city of Tampere . It was located in the Pyynikki district in the park of the same name. The runway was 3.608 kilometers long and was driven clockwise .
The race held in Pyynikki is known as Pyynikinajot and was first held in 1932. After an interruption due to the Second World War , racing was resumed in 1946. In 1962 and 1963 the route hosted the Finnish Grand Prix of the Motorcycle World Championship . Because the Pyynikki circuit was considered too narrow, the Finnish Grand Prix was held in Imatra from 1964 . In the history of the Pyynikinajot races, a total of three drivers were killed. In 1971 the race was banned for safety reasons. At the last race in Pyynikki, the future world champion Jarno Saarinen achieved a double victory.
