Phakisa Freeway
The Phakisa Freeway is a motorsport race track in the Free State Province in South Africa .
The route with the unusual nickname "Freeway" was opened in April 1999 after seven months of construction and is located near the town of Welkom . It consists of a street course 4242 meters long and twelve meters wide and a 1.5 mile (2.5 km) long tri-oval . The area has a spectator capacity of 60,000. The word "Phakisa" means hurry up in Sotho .
From 1999 to 2004 the track hosted the Grand Prix of South Africa as part of the motorcycle world championship .
In 2014 , a run for the Superbike and Supersport World Championship will be held on the track for the first time .
A race track, the Goldfields Raceway, was located in the same place .
