Garry McCoy
Garry McCoy (born April 18, 1972 in Sydney , New South Wales , Australia ) is an Australian motorcycle racer .
Career
In 1992 McCoy took part in the motorcycle world championship for the first time in the class up to 125 cm³ . The first full season followed the following year. In 1995 and 1996 McCoy could each decide a race for himself.
McCoy's move to the 500 cc class took place in 1998 . After initial problems with an injury, the breakthrough came in 2000 with a victory in the opening race in South Africa. McCoy ended the season after two more wins in fifth place overall. His driving style, drifting through the bends, suited the Michelin tires of the time. The following years were far less successful after another injury in 2001 and the move to Kawasaki in 2003 .
In 2004 Garry McCoy moved to the Superbike World Championship for Ducati and won the race at Phillip Island . In 2006 McCoy was hired by Ilmor SRT as a test driver for the new 800 cm³ Ilmor SRT X³ and started with a wildcard in the last two races of the MotoGP season , in which he scored one championship point despite several laps behind. He was also discussed as a driver for 2007 , but was then replaced by Andrew Pitt and Jeremy McWilliams .
After a year off racing, McCoy competed in the Supersport World Championship in 2008 and 2009 with a Triumph Daytona 675 .
For 2010 he does not have a permanent starting place in any of the motorcycle world championships.
