BRP-Rotax GmbH & Co KG (until June 14, 2016: BRP-Powertrain GmbH & Co. KG ) is an Austrian engine manufacturer. It is a subsidiary of the Canadian company Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), the general partner of the GmbH & Co. KG is BRP-Powertrain Management GmbH , the limited partner is BRP Holdings (Austria) GmbH .
history
The company was founded as ROTAX-WERK AG in Dresden in 1920 , taken over by Fichtel & Sachs AG in 1930 and relocated to Schweinfurt . In 1943 the company moved to Austria and was bought by the Bombardier Group in 1970 . Under the brand name Rotax , BRP- Rotax produces high-performance motors for snow sleds, jet and sport boats, off-road vehicles (ATVs and quads), three-wheeled roadsters and for motorcycles from the manufacturers Aprilia , BMW , Buell and MZ as well as for light sport aircraft , ultralight aircraft , gyroplane , motor glider , drones , Hot air airships and karts .

OEM segment
The OEM Business Unit produces products for Original Equipment Manufactures (OEM) . These products include components such as cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts and crankshafts, camshafts and connecting rods.
aviation
Rotax manufactures engines for microlight aircraft, light aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicle systems. Since 1975, more than 170,000 units of the Rotax aircraft engines have been sold. Both two-stroke and four-stroke engines are available. Current engine models for aviation:

Kart
BRP-Rotax developed the Rotax MAX engine for karting. This specialization was decided on the basis of experience in the development and production of powerful 2-stroke engines , which is why the company began producing the Rotax 125 MAX engine series in 1997 .
