construction and development

The Rotax 915 iS is a water-cooled , turbocharged four-cylinder - four stroke - Boxer engine with reduction gear . The turbocharger has a compression ratio of 3.5: 1 and has a double electronic fuel injection with a motor control from Rockwell Collins and dual ignition. The engine develops an output of 141 PS (104 kW) at take-off and 135 PS (99 kW) when cruising . It can maintain nominal power up to 15,000 ft (4,572 m) and has a service ceiling of 23,000 ft (7,010 m).

The engine is a further development of the Rotax 912 . In contrast, however, it has fuel injection , a reinforced crankshaft , modified pistons , a new gearbox and a turbocharger . Initially, the engine had a TBO of 1,200 hours, which should be increased to 2,000 hours depending on experience during operation.

Production of the engine began in the second half of 2017. The European Aviation Safety Agency issued type certification for the Rotax 915 iSc3 A on December 14, 2017 and for the Rotax 915 iSc3 B on January 4, 2018.
