The Rotax 503 is one of a range of small piston engines designed primarily for aerospace applications. It was manufactured and sold by the Austrian manufacturer Rotax until 2011 . Spare parts have been supplied since then.

It is a 2-cylinder two-stroke engine equipped with a fan , which is suitable for both a pull- screw and a pneumatic screw . Forced cooling by the fan can be dispensed with if the motor drives a tension screw and air ducts and baffles ensure that the ram air is cooled. The engine is approved for experimental and UL aircraft. It has a double electrical ignition system and can be supplied with one (model 503 UL-1V) or two (model 503 UL-2V) carburettors. Various speed ratios are also available for the reduction gear.

Additional equipment options include an electric starter , alternator and silencer .
