Gunskirchen primary school:
It is not exactly known when there was a school in Gunskirchen, but it was certainly from 1624. The first schoolhouse was in Kirchengasse 2 next to the pharmacy, was also the sacristan's house and had only one classroom. It was a parish school with only one class. It burned down in 1869.
The second schoolhouse was built in 1875 at Kirchengasse 14. First there were four and later six classrooms, each of which had space for 50-100 students. After the Second World War this became too small, the current schoolhouse has been in existence since 1954. There were two extensions for the secondary school, in 1965 and 1974.
The gym and swimming pool were added in 1972. In 2006 the school was renovated.
Culture and sights
- Irnharting Castle : former moated castle, first mentioned in 1349
- Gunskirchen parish church
- Pilgrimage Church of Maria Fallsbach: The current church dates from 1516, with a ribbed vault in the choir and nave as well as a richly profiled south portal made of fine sandstone; In front of the church there is a pilgrim's fountain with a wrought iron grille and roof from 1700.
The founding legend of the pilgrimage church tells of a hunter who, with an unbridled passion for hunting, also hunted on Sundays. In the Schacherholz next to the Wimmerkapelle he shot a stag that had the image of the Queen of Heaven in its antlers. The stag eventually perished near the falls stream. To atone for his iniquity, the hunter had a church built in honor of Mary and the deer antlers with the image of Mary attached to the church for eternal memory.
- Filial church St. Peter in Liedering: today's church building is a small domed oval building that was started in 1729 and consecrated in 1731. The helmet roof carries a lantern.
