Irnharting is a cadastral community and a place in the market town of Gunskirchen in the Upper Austrian district of Wels-Land in the Hausruckviertel . The place is best known for the Irnharting Castle .
geography
Irnharting is located in the Grünbachtal between the Hausruck ridge and the foothills of the Alps in central Upper Austria. Irnharting is located ten kilometers west of the city of Wels and two kilometers west of Gunskirchen at an altitude of 352 meters. The cadastral parish consists of the western part of the parish and covers an area of 11 km². The extension from north to south is 4.9 km; 3.9 km from east to west. The highest point is near the village of Holzing at 443 meters above sea level.

The localities of Au bei Sirfling, Baumgarting, Buchleiten, Dorf, Holzing, Irnharting, Kappling, Kranzl am Eck, Lehen, Lucken, Luckenberg, Pfarrhofwies, Sirfling, Spraid, Wallnstorf, Wilhaming and Wimberg as well as the southwestern part of Gunskirchen belong to the Irnharting cadastral community .
history
Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .
During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.
After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

In 1990 the place still had 207 inhabitants, in 2001 it had 217.

In and around Irnharting there are some small and medium-sized enterprises, most of them are agricultural or forestry operations.
Sports
In summer there are good conditions for cycling thanks to the developed roads and the many marked cycle paths. In winter you can go ice stock sport and ice skating as there are numerous ponds. The largest is the front castle pond with 200 by 300 meters. It is best suited for ice stock sport, as the lanes are prepared with equipment. A total of 15 lanes are available. Irnharting is also home to the Irnharting curling club. With a snow depth of 30–50 cm, you can also go cross-country skiing on many walking trails.
Buildings and sights
- Irnharting Castle
- Irnharting Castle Church:
- The castle church is located in a forest 200 meters west of the town center. It was built in 1763 and under the church are the graves of the former Counts and Barons Irnhartings.
- Old rectory Wallnstorf:
- The old parsonage was the parish of Gunskirchen until 1945. It was restored in 2007 and now only serves as a farm .
Legend of Irnharting
Two noble ladies rode out once in 1329 and got lost in the forest west of Gunskirchen. They asked God for help and promised to build a small church. But soon they were found and saved. In thanks, her father had a church built and a magnificent castle next to it.
