The Grünbach , sometimes also called Welser Grünbach , is a brook in Upper Austria that runs almost entirely in the Wels-Land district and the city of Wels . It has no outflow to another river, like other streams from the Inn and Hausruckviertel hill country , it still flows through the high terrace of the Traun , but then seeps away on the lower terrace .
course
The Grünbach rises in Obergrünbach in the municipality of Gaspoltshofen , then flows through the municipal areas of Bachmanning and Pennewang further to the northeast through Offenhausen , from there further south-east and takes on the Irnhartingerbach near Baumgarting (municipality of Gunskirchen ) . It continues to flow through the northern districts of Wels. It used to seep into the Welser Heide , today it is diverted into former gravel pits in Wels-Puchberg near the municipality boundary to Marchtrenk and taken there to seep away.
Nominally it belongs to the system of the Traun , namely to the Welser Mühlbach .
Water flow
The brook normally carries little water, the average discharge at the Baumgarting gauge is 0.45 m³ / s, which corresponds to a discharge of only 9.5 l / s · km². However, it can become dangerous during floods after heavy rainfall, both due to the lack of runoff and the lack of natural retention basins. In these cases, the excess water is currently being directed to the leisure facility in a former gravel pit in the Wels district of Wimpassing. An older flood control system exists north of Gunskirchen. There are therefore considerations to lead the stream into a gravel pit in Gunskirchen or to pump it out into the Traun .
Water quality
Until the 1980s, the Grünbach was excessively contaminated with chromium due to a tannery in Offenhausen that had since been relocated ; the chromium content was one of the top European values. As of 2007, the Grünbach has water quality class II throughout .
