history
Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .
During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.
In December 1933, the farmer's son Johann Breitwieser from Mitterfils was sentenced to death in the district court of Wels for murder, but pardoned to life imprisonment five minutes before the execution . Since this was the first stand trial after the Dollfuss II government had the right to stand trial (see death penalty in Austria 1933 to 1938 ), the case was reported in detail in all of the major Austrian newspapers.
After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.
coat of arms
Official description of the municipal coat of arms: In gold, sitting on a green hill, a red squirrel turned left with a green nut in its forelegs; above it two black, diagonally crossed keys.
The community colors are green-yellow.
The keys in the coat of arms awarded in 1987 refer to the St. Peter monastery in Salzburg, which has been in the Breitenau estate for over a thousand years . The squirrel comes from the coat of arms of Jörg Treytelkhofers, a keeper at Gut Breitenau, whose tombstone from 1453 is on the outer wall of the parish church. The hill symbolizes the altitude of the community.
