Buchkirchen is a market town in Upper Austria in the Wels-Land district in the Hausruckviertel with 4045 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The responsible judicial district is Wels.
geography
Buchkirchen is 346 m above sea level in the Hausruckviertel. The extension is 8.9 km from north to south and 6.2 km from west to east. The total area is 32.1 km². 10.9% of the area is forested and 76.9% of the area is used for agriculture.

history
Buchkirchen was first mentioned in 1179 as "Puechchirichen" in a document from Pope Alexander III. mentioned for Kremsmünster. The place name is most often interpreted as "Church near a beech forest".
In 985, Bishop Pilgrim von Passau held a synod in Mistelbach. The church and parish relationships were regulated and parish boundaries were redefined.
Population development
In 1991 the municipality had 3,187 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 3,648 inhabitants.

Official description of the municipal coat of arms, awarded in 1978: In blue, two silver beech leaves growing out of the base of the shield, inclined outwards, above the golden crook of a bishop's staff. The municipality colors are blue-white-blue.
The bishop's staff commemorates the synod of Mistelbach convened by Bishop Pilgrim around 985/991 to reorganize the ecclesiastical tithing rights in Passau in the former Traungau . The two beech leaves should speak for the community name.
Culture and sights
- Mistelbach Castle
- Parish church Buchkirchen : late Gothic building core, modified in Baroque style in 1660. The two side altar paintings Crucifixion with Mary, Johannes and Magdalena and the Baptism of Jesus were painted in 1798 by Martin Johann Schmidt , known as Kremser Schmidt. The Buchkirchen parish church is dedicated to St. James.
- Vicarage: The construction of the vicarage began around 1600 and was completed in the early baroque style under Pastor P. Jakob Holz (1639–1671). In 2001 the general renovation of the rectory was completed.
- Filialkirche Mistelbach: built in 1694, in the church there are high altar paintings by Martin Johann Schmidt (Kremser Schmidt)
- The cherry blossom race in Wels (road bike race) runs over the Mistelbacherberg
