The parish church of St. Jakob is located on the western edge of Buchkirchen on a hill and consists of a single-nave, four-bay nave and a single-bay, retracted choir with a 5/8 end and a massive west tower with an onion helmet. While the nave and choir date from the 15th century and have been changed several times, the high altar was created in 1893 in the Mannerist-Early Baroque form of historicism and the side altars in 1799 in the classicist style.

The castle-like facility with four bars encloses an almost square courtyard. The south and west tracts were also built by 1593, and in 1651 they were extended to form a four-sided structure, which was accentuated by means of a round core, oriel and stepped gable extension.
