Steinerkirchen an der Traun is a market town in Upper Austria in the Traunviertel with 2386 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The political district is the Wels-Land district .
geography
Steinerkirchen an der Traun is located at an altitude of 381 m in the Traunviertel.
The extension is 8.4 km from north to south and 7.7 km from west to east. The total area is 32.5 km². 14.5% of the area is forested, 77.8% of the area is used for agriculture. The municipality has a share in the 100 hectare nature reserve Alm-Auen .

Counting districts are Steinerkirchen-Zentrum for the market town, and Steinerkirchen-Umgebung for the rest of the community.
history
Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria , the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century . Documents from the years 1247 and 1249, which summarize the possessions of the Kremsmünster monastery , name the parish church Steinerkirchen for the first time. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .
During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.
Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria . After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . In 1945 Upper Austria was restored.
Population development
In 1991 the community had 2068 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 2149 inhabitants. 2386 citizens currently live in this community (as of January 1, 2020).

The community belonged to the judicial district of Lambach until 2012 and has been part of the judicial district of Wels since January 1, 2013 .

Official description of the municipal coat of arms :
- Square of green and silver; 1 a gold, Latin cross with clover leaf ends growing from the dividing line ; 2 and 3 a square wall up to the upper edge; 4 a golden wave bar .
The community colors are yellow-green .
The tower cross of the parish church in the first quarter and the stone wall filling the field in the second quarter underline the place name ( talking coat of arms ). The wall in the third lower right field refers to Almegg Castle , which is located on the Alm river . The waveband embodies the Traun River , the name of which is included in the community name.
The coat of arms was awarded in 1984.

The market place is Steinerkirchen an der Traun . The place is located about 11 kilometers southwest of Wels . It is located in the valley of the Fischlhamer Bach (from Eberstalzell) 3½ kilometers south of its confluence with the Traun , at around 380 m above sea level. A. Height.
The village comprises almost 200 buildings with around 800 inhabitants, i.e. around 1 ⁄ 3 of the community's population. The Rotte Rachling to the west also belongs to the local area . This also corresponds to the counting district Steinerkirchen-Zentrum (000) of the municipality.
The cadastral community with around 820 hectares also includes the villages of Frohnhofen in the valley, Nieder - and Oberheischbach to the northeast, and Hummelberg to the southwest.
The L537 Sattledter Straße runs west- eastwards through the village from the B1 at Edt bei Lambach to Sattledt (connection A1 ), to the southwest the L1312 Bad Wimsbach-Neydhartinger Straße leads to the B144 near Roitham am Traunfall (near Laakirchen / Steyrmühl).

- Benedictine convent : built in 1949 in the former rectory, with parament workshops
- Family paradise Agrarium - plant, animal & adventure park: In the park, which was built in 1994, flowers, herbs, fruit, grain and vegetables can be seen in 60 landscaped gardens on an area of 10 hectares. It also shows breeds of domestic animals threatened with extinction and the smallest horses in the world.
