Paramentics

The paraments is considered treatment of vestments . In science and teaching, it is an academic discipline that is located in the field of practical theology and deals with the design of liturgical clothes and textiles for worship.

In practice, the parament also deals with the proper design of churches, in particular with altars (e.g. antependium ) and pulpit . Findings and considerations from aesthetics , liturgy and Christian art flow into the Paramentik.

Paramentik can also be used to describe a workshop that specializes in the development, design and manufacture of parament.

Objects of Paramentics

Paramentics is mainly concerned with

  • Material science (in the 21st century natural materials such as silk , wool and linen are preferred again )
  • of color psychology and its meaning and its influence on paramentics
  • the church year and the liturgical calendar in their influence on textile design
  • the origin and development of liturgical clothing and its environment, taking into account clothing fashion and fashion history
  • History of Paramentics (historical Paramentics)
