Thomson-Brandt 120 mm mortar
The Thomson-Brandt 120 mm mortar (complete name: Thomson-Brandt 120 mm mortar MO-120-RT-61 ) is a French mortar . The weapon has been ready for troops since 1961 and is the standard heavy mortar of the French , Italian and Dutch armies , as well as the US Marine Corps .
The weapon
The carriage of the mortar rests on an axis. The weapon rests on the axis even while firing. A large earth spur prevents the weapon from slipping due to the recoil and thus new target data must be found. The disadvantage is that the mortar reaches an enormous size when straightening. This sometimes even makes it necessary to use a small ladder for charging.
In addition to splinters / HE grenades, smoke grenades and grenades for battlefield lighting are also fired. In addition, a "rocket-assisted projectile" bullet (RAP bullet) was developed, which increases the maximum firing range to 13,000 m.
