The Breitenau Castle or the current estate Breitenau is in the village Breitenau the community Pennewang in the district of Wels-Land .

history

The Breitenau estate or castle was first mentioned in a document in 987. At that time, Salzburg's Archbishop Friedrich also handed over the properties in Preitinouwa (Preitnowe) to the monastery in the course of the separation of property between the diocese and St. The Breitenau office was enlarged through donations. Despite attempts by the aristocratic family of Jörger von Tollet in the 16th century and the Lambach monastery in the 17th century to take over the office and the nursing court, the property remained with the monastery of St. Peter until the abolition of the manor in 1848-1850. Even today, the manor and the associated Dominikalland are owned by St. Peter. The relationships between an allegedly existing castle and the Breitenau estate are unclear. Ulrich der Salmansleyter zw Praytenaw is mentioned for the castle in 1411, and a knight Jörg der Treytelkover zu Praytenaw in 1452. On February 11, 1459, a Walter Palstorffer, seated at Praytenaw, appears. However, the aforementioned can also be found on the list of administrators of the St. Petri estate, so that the assumption that there were two properties here, one of which is no longer structurally verifiable, is probably incorrect.

The list of administrators of the Breitenau estate has been documented since the 12th century. In addition to numerous secular administrators, the estate was also administered by a number of clerics of the monastery ( OSB ) in the 18th century . In 1887 Rupert Eckschlager, from Hintersee in the Salzburg region, took over the administration.

present

The representative estate is located on a hill in the village of Breitenau. It is equipped with beautifully curved window baskets and a crooked roof. Above the entrance door a Latin inscription reminds of the affiliation with St. Peter.

The residential building was extensively renovated in 1838. In 1914 the manor and the economic wing were renewed again by master builder Schlager from Linz and master builder Herndl from Ried. The rooms of the former nursing court (office room and two detention rooms) also disappeared. The last renovation that led to its current appearance was carried out in 1948.

Since the middle of the 19th century, the estate has been managed by the fourth generation of the Eckschlager family.
