Saramacca is a district in Suriname . It borders the Atlantic Ocean to the north, the Coronie district to the west, the Para district to the south and southeast and the Wanica district to the northeast .
The district is dominated by agriculture. Traditionally, this was dominated by relatively small family businesses. There are now also larger farms that mainly grow rice and bananas .
Tourism is also important. A large number of ornithologists visit the district because of its diversity of birds.
The Saramacca district is represented by three members of parliament ( De Nationale Assemblée ).
Administrative division
The Saramacca district is in turn divided into the following six departments (decentralized):

- Jarikaba
- Kampong Baroe
- Tijgerkreek
- Wayamboweg
