The 24-hour race at the Nürburgring 2010 was the 38th edition of the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring . The race took place from May 13th to 16th, 2010.

In qualifying, four Audi R8 LMS took the lead with a record time of 8:24 minutes, which corresponds to an average speed of 181 km / h.

Immediately after the start, which was as usual on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., the title-defending Manthey Porsche 997 GT3 R (start no. 1) with five-time winner Marcel Tiemann at the wheel took over on the Grand Prix circuit of the On the first lap he took the lead, which he only had to give up briefly to the hybrid Porsche, which was also looked after by Manthey, in the first three hours. However, the winning car of the past four years failed through no fault of its own after another vehicle hit the guardrails and then collided with the Manthey Porsche.

During the early hours of the morning, other teams also had problems, such as B. the BMW Team Schnitzer, whose BMW lying in second position was hit by a piece of wood, whereby the radiator was destroyed. However, the Schnitzer crew quickly repaired the damage and was able to send the vehicle with the starting number 25 back onto the track.

There the Schnitzer BMW in question fought an exciting battle with one of the Abt Audi and the hybrid Porsche GT3-R, which lasted many laps until the Audi had to give up with a technical defect. In the further course of the race, only a few vehicles were considered for overall victory. These included u. a. the Farnbacher Ferrari F430 GTC , which had fought its way up to third place thanks to constant lap times and only a few mistakes. One of the Audi R8 LMSs used by Phoenix also delivered a remarkable performance, which up to now was 4th overall.

Almost two hours before the end of the race, the Manthey hybrid Porsche, which was in the lead, had an engine failure in the Breidscheid area, thus handing the lead over to the Schnitzer team, which was struggling with a transmission problem. However, Team Schnitzer did not give up its position at the top and thus achieved the 19th overall victory for the BMW brand since 1970.

With their fifth overall victory, the BMW Team Schnitzer also became the most successful team in the history of the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. Pedro Lamy, who drove the winning car, is with his fifth victory, alongside Marcel Tiemann, who has also been successful five times, the most successful driver in the history of the race.

The Schubert-Motorsport team secured fourth place overall with a new BMW Z4 GT3 . Dörr Motorsport finished ninth with the same model, even though the vehicle was only finished two weeks before the start of the race and therefore only a few test kilometers could be covered.
