David Price Racing is a British motorsport team founded by David Price in 1976 . In April 2009 the team was sold to Andre Herck . David Price Racing has been competing in the GP2 series since 2005 .

history

In the late 1970s, the team competed in small British formula series , including the British Formula 3 Championship and the Aurora F1 . With Nigel Mansell , Martin Brundle , Johnny Dumfries and Tiff Needell , several future Formula 1 drivers drove for the team. 1984 Dumfries won the British Formula 3 Championship with David Price Racing. During this time, the team was also active in the French Formula 3 championship , which they won with Pierre Petit in 1982.

In 1987 David Price switched to sports car racing and became team manager at Richard Lloyd Racing . A year later David Price went to Sauber - Mercedes with whom he won the Sports Car World Championship and the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1989 . He then worked for Nissan Motorsport Europe, where he was responsible for the sports car program.

In 1995 David Price Racing took part in championships again and went to the start as one of the many McLaren F1 GTR teams in the BPR Global GT Series . They immediately won the championship in the first year and finished third overall the following year. Then David Price Racing became the European works team of Panoz and started with the Esperante GTR-1 in the new FIA GT championship .

During his interlude with Panoz, David Price Racing took part in the Le Mans 24-hour race in a BMW V12 LM in 1999 and finished in fifth place. Later the Le Mans prototypes were supported by Panoz in operations in the ALMS and the 24-hour race at Le Mans. After the 2001 season, David Price Racing supported MG in developing the MG XPower SV for 2002.

In 2004 David Price Racing returned to formula racing and competed in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup . David Price Racing also looked after A1 Team USA in the 2005/2006 A1GP season .

GP2 series

In 2005 David Price Racing switched to the newly founded GP2 series , the successor series to Formula 3000 . Olivier Pla and Ryan Sharp were signed as drivers . After seven race weekends, Sharp was replaced by Giorgio Mondini . With Pla, the team was able to win the sprint races at Silverstone and Hockenheim and took tenth place in the overall standings.

In the 2006 season , the team started under the name DPR Direxiv . While Clivio Piccione took part in every race for the DPR Direxiv, Olivier Pla, Mike Conway and Vitali Petrow shared the second cockpit. The best result was achieved by Piccione, who finished third on the podium twice. In the team ranking, DPR Direxiv finally came in tenth again.

In 2007 , the name change that had been carried out a year earlier was reversed and the company started again under the name David Price Racing. Since this season, David Price Racing has only been active in the GP2 series. Christian Bakkerud and Andy Souček were hired as pilots . Due to an injury to Bakkerud, Pla started again at a race weekend for DPR. The Spaniard Souček achieved the best result this season with a second place in Spa-Francorchamps . Since you were otherwise not very successful, you only came twelfth in the overall standings.

In 2008 the new GP2 Asia series was launched. The first season started with drivers Armaan Ebrahim and Andy Souček. Although Souček finished third in the first race, he was replaced by Diego Nunes after the first race weekend . Souček's podium finish remained the greatest success of the team, which finished eleventh overall at the end of the season. Michael Herck and Diego Nunes were signed up for the season in the main European series of GP2 . Due to an injury to Herck, the Romanian was represented for the first three race weekends by Giacomo Ricci and Andy Souček. Finally, with four points, they finished last in the team standings.

In the GP2 Asia Series season 2008/2009, the second season of the GP2 Asia Series, David Price Racing was represented again and they continued to rely on the services of Michael Herck. Yūhi Sekiguchi was hired as a teammate, but he was replaced by Giacomo Ricci after a race weekend. None of the three drivers was able to score points this season and so they finished last in the team standings.

Before the start of the GP2 series in 2009 , David Price sold the team to Andre Herck , Michael Herck's father. It was decided to keep the name and they also stuck to the driver duo Herck / Ricci. After four racing weekends, Ricci was replaced by the Frenchman Franck Perera . In the team standings, David Price Racing finished last without any points after six race weekend.
