Career
Beginnings in motorsport
Bakkerud began his motorsport career in karting in 1995 , where he was active until 2001. In 2002 he moved into the single-seater racing and was 15th in the German Formula BMW . In 2003 he stayed in this championship and finished the season on the 24th. 2004 Bakkerud moved to the British Formula BMW to Carlin . With three podium finishes, he finished the season in eleventh place.
In 2005 Bakkerud received a Carlin cockpit in the British Formula 3 Championship . While his teammate Álvaro Parente won the championship and his teammate Charlie Kimball was runner-up, Bakkerud achieved seventh place in the championship with four podium finishes. In 2006 he stayed for another season with Carlin in the British Formula 3 Championship. He won a race and improved to sixth place in the drivers' standings. He was again beaten by two of his teammates, Oliver Jarvis and Maro Engel .
GP2 series
In 2007 Bakkerud switched to the GP2 series , where he competed for David Price Racing together with Andy Souček . The season was disappointing as Bakkerud failed to score and twice suffered a back injury with a pinched nerve. In the championship he was 34 without points, while Souček achieved podium finishes.
In 2008 Bakkerud started both in the regular GP2 series and in the GP2 Asia series for the Super Nova team . In the GP2 Asia series he was again unable to score points, while his teammate Fairuz Fauzy won a race, among other things. In the GP2 series in 2008 , he suffered another back injury in the first race after a collision with Ben Hanley . At the second race weekend in Istanbul he was therefore replaced by Souček. Bakkerud took part again in the third round of the series in Monaco , but then had to end the season early. His cockpit was taken over by Souček. In the overall standings he was 27. Bakkerud's best GP2 result was ninth.
DTM and Le Mans
In the 2009 season, Bakkerud switched to touring car racing in the DTM . For the team Futurecom TME by Colin Kolles he entered a Audi A4 DTM in 2007. With twelfth place as the best result, Bakkerud remained without points in the DTM. However, he was also active in the sports car sector for the team that season and made his debut in the Le Mans 24-hour race , which he finished in ninth place. Bakkerud also finished fourth in the LMP1 class of the Asian Le Mans Series and 15th in the LMP1 class of the Le Mans Series that year . In 2010 he was only active in the 24-hour race at Le Mans. With this car race he ended his career.
Personal
