Erik Gustaf David Norén (born February 1, 1981 in Borlänge ) is a Swedish musician (vocals, guitar). He was one of the two front men in the rock band Mando Diao .

Life

Erik Gustaf David Norén was born in 1981 to Jan Norén and Kerstin Bengtsson-Norén in Borlänge (Sweden). He has two younger brothers, Victor and Carl, and a younger sister, Josefine.

Norén describes the rural environment of his childhood as carefree and creative. His musical talent as well as his penchant for acting became evident very early on in school. According to his mother, he kept slipping into different roles.

Football played a major role during Gustaf's childhood and teenage years. Like other members of Mando Diao, he was a fan of IK Brage (Borlänge), the local football club with roots in the working class. At school, rock music was the most important topic after soccer. The music of the 1960s, especially the Beatles, was Norén's preferred music. Newer bands like Nirvana and later from 1995 Britpop groups like Oasis or Blur expanded the list of his favorite groups.

In 1996, Norén met Björn Dixgård at a party. A little later Dixgård invited him to become a member of his band; they became the two front men of Butler, the band Björn Dixgård founded together with Daniel Haglund , who later became the keyboardist of Mando Diao. Jan Norén, Gustaf's father, also played in the band for some time.

In 1997 the name Butler was changed to Mando Jao. According to stories, Dixgård had a dream in which an old man appeared to him and called out the two words to him. The band took a liking to the name and it was adopted. Norén left the band for a short time in 1998 because he moved to Falun and became estranged from his friends; he came back soon.

In 1999 the band name was changed again, this time to Mando Diao, because the band was sure to be able to offer a better English pronunciation. At that time Björn Dixgård, Gustaf Norén, Daniel Haglund and Carl-Johan Fogelklou were band members. In the same year Samuel Giers joined the band as a drummer. Daniel Haglund left the band in 2004 and was replaced by Mats Björke .

At first in bars and small venues in Sweden, appearances in other European countries as well as the USA and Japan soon followed. Every album that has been released has been a bigger hit than the previous one. Today Mando Diao is one of the most famous Swedish bands.

In 2006, Norén was named one of Sweden's 100 sexiest men.

In 2008, Gustaf Norén and Björn Dixgård joined the artists' network Caligola ; In 2012, the album Back To Earth was the first release of the music project .

Björn Dixgård and Gustaf Norén achieved their greatest success in their home country Sweden in 2012 with the album Infruset , a setting of poems by the Swedish poet Gustaf Fröding. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the poet's death in 2011, Norén was asked to set a poem to music, which resulted in ten poems set to music in a band project.

In 2009, Gustaf Norén made his acting debut in the Swedish short film Ingenkomner .

On June 3, 2015, Gustaf Norén and Mando Diao separated.

Gustaf is starting a new chapter with his music project MA - his music is freely available to everyone on Soundcloud; his new song "Ma Queen Of Everything" was recorded in nature with a mobile recording studio and released on September 19, 2015.

On November 12, 2015, the Swedish film She's Wild Again Tonight by Fia-Stine Sandlund premiered at the Stockholm Film Festival, in which Gustaf Norén and the Swedish actress Shima Niavarani played the leading roles in an adaptation of August Strindberg's play Fröken Julie .

Ingen kom ner (2009)

Ingen komner is a Swedish short film that tells a horror story; the film premiered on January 23, 2009 at the Gothenburg Film Festival and on April 18, 2009 under the title No Come Down at the Arizona International Film Festival . Directed by Torbjörn Martin, the script was provided by John Boisen, Björn Fävremark and Torbjörn Martin. Gustaf Norén can be seen in the role of Thomas.

She's Wild Again Tonight (2015)

The film She's Wild Again Tonight by the Swedish director Fia-Stina Sandlund is the third part of a trilogy, the first and second parts of which are She's Blonde Like Me (2011) and She's Staging It (2012).

Josefine Adolfsson and Fia-Stina Sandlund provided the script. The story is an adaptation of August Strindberg's play Fröken Julie from 1888; Gustaf Norén and fellow actor Shima Niavarani embody their own fictionalized characters. The action is set in Brooklyn, where Gustaf and Shima are working on the feminist play "Fröken Julie" together with their director, played by John Coombs . The film encompasses an intense story of the professional and private relationship between the two characters, of feminism and the distribution of male and female roles in society.
