Björn Dixgård
Björn Hans-Erik Dixgård (born May 8, 1981 in Falun , Sweden ) is the front man (vocals, guitar) of the Swedish rock band Mando Diao .
Life
Björn Dixgård was born on May 8, 1981 near Falun (Sweden) as the second child of Hans and Malin Dixgård. After moving to Romme, he attended elementary school there and later high school. One of his favorite childhood activities was fishing.
Music has always been very important in the Dixgård house. Malin Dixgård with her wonderful voice and Hans Dixgård as a passionate guitarist and even former member of a band passed their talents on to the two children. Björn's older sister Linnéa Dixgård is a singer in the band "Twinflower".
The first bands to influence Björn were the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks and The Who. Later, when football and rock music were the main themes of the school, Nirvana added to this list, and since 1995 Britpop bands like Oasis and Blur have also been added. The great teenage rebellion did not materialize - the parents Dixgård as former hippies and employed in social professions were able to avoid major conflicts.
Björn founded the band “Butler” at the age of fourteen together with his school friend at the time Daniel Haglund , who later became Mando Diao's first keyboardist. In 1996 Björn Dixgård met Gustaf Norén for the first time. At a party they started talking about music and shortly afterwards Björn invited Gustaf to join his band. In 1997 the name Butler was changed to Mando Jao - according to Björn, an old man appeared to him in a dream who came down from heaven and shouted the two words at him.
In 1998 Gustaf left the band for a short time because he moved to Falun and became estranged from his friends. A little later, however, he came back. In 1999 the name of the band was changed again, but this time only the spelling - Mando Jao became Mando Diao. The band members were certain that this version would offer better English pronunciation. The band at that time consisted of Björn Dixgård, Gustaf Norén, CJ Carl-Johan Fogelklou , Daniel Haglund and Sam Samuel Giers . In 2004 Daniel Haglund left the band and was replaced by Mats Björke . Samuel Giers left the band in 2011. Patrik Heikinpieti (drums) and Mats Björke have been members of the band ever since . In 2015, Gustaf Norén left Mando Diao.
In the beginning the band toured Sweden and only played in small locations and bars, but soon followed by appearances all over Europe, the USA and Japan. Each Mando Diao album has been a bigger success than the previous one. Today Mando Diao is one of the most famous Swedish music groups.
In 2007 Björn Dixgård was on a solo tour in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
In 2008 Björn Dixgård and Gustaf Norén joined the artists' network Caligola; In 2012 the first album of the Caligola music project was released - "Back To Earth".
Björn Dixgård and Gustaf Norén achieved their greatest success in their home country Sweden with the album Infruset , a setting of poems by the Swedish poet Gustaf Fröding , in 2012.
Björn Dixgård has been married to the Swedish actress and producer Emma Kihlberg since January 2008. The wedding took place at Södra Teatern in Stockholm. The couple have two children.
